The Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA) accepts applicants for Master's and Doctor in Science Degrees in the Air Transport and Airport Infrastructure Postgraduate Program (PG-EIA). PG-EIA is the only Postgraduate Program in Brazil, and one of the few in the world, dedicated to the air transport sector and its operational, managerial, infrastructural and environmental issues. This is a flourishing field of human activity, demanding specialized and qualified human resources to cope with public and private challenges. The Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA) is headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo state, in the heart of a worldwide acknowledged aeronautical cluster. This is a strategic asset for the development of synergies for those interested in research and innovation in this sector. The program is organized according to two core areas - Air Transport (PG-EIA-T) and Airport Infrastructure (PG-EIA-I) - that encompass the following lines of research: Air Transport (PG-EIA-T): Airports, Air Transport, Air Traffic Engineering, Transport Systems. Airport Infrastructure (PG-EIA-I): Pavement Engineering, Structures, Computational Geomechanics, Geosynthetics, Environmental Hydrogeotechnics, Sanitary Infrastructure, Water Resources, Environmental Sanitation, and Tropical Soil Technology. Applicants for Master's and Doctor in Science Degrees may choose for a full time (Aluno Regular) or part time (Aluno Especial) dedication. A third option is given undergraduate students that can apply for the modality (Aluno PMG). In all the three cases, a PG-EIA supervisor must be contacted before the application, in order to jointly develop a research proposal.
Registration will be completed online via the Registration Page: Registration Page.
Fees: Tuition fees are not applicable.
Application period for this call: April 1st - May 5th, 2025, online.
Enrolment: 2025/2nd semester.
Test Date: Please refer to the Registration Page for details: Registration Page.
Interview Date: June 2nd, 2025 (online).
1. Curriculum assessment;
2. Research Proposal assessment;
3. Basic Logic and Math Test; and
4. Interview.
Detailed instructions:
1. Curriculum assessment: the documentation is submitted by the candidate at the time of registration in the online form. For a complete list of documents to be submitted at the time of registration, visit the Registration Page.
2. Research Proposal assessment: Click here to download the template for the research proposal. The proposal must be prepared by the candidate, deliberated with a PG-EIA professor, and provided at the time of registration.
3. Basic Logic and Math Test: As instructed in the Registration Page. In the PG-EIA, the score of 5.0 (50%) will be considered as a reference. Specifically for master's students, an English Language test will be applied (the candidate's score must reach 50%). Previous versions of the tests can be found at Previous Admission Exams.
4. Interview: The interview will be held online only for candidates approved in the previous stages. It is suggested that candidates reserve the whole afternoon (Brasilia time), counting on proper infrastructure for video calling on the most common platforms of the market (e.g., Google Meet, Zoom, etc.). The notification about the time of the interview will be sent by e-mail. In the interview, aspects of the candidate's curriculum, his potential as a researcher and his Research Proposal will be raised.
All candidates must attend the Basic Logic and Math Test, unless they were approved previously in this test.
These are the eliminating stages: Research Proposal (item 2), Basic Logic and Math Test (item 3) and English test (for master's candidates). The criteria for analyzing the Research Proposal are as follows: i) the adherence of the proposal to the PG-EIA; ii) the participation of the potential advisor in the preparation of the proposal; iii) the availability of the potential advisor; iv) the academic-scientific quality of the document. The analysis of the Research Proposals will be carried out by the potential advisor(s) together with the Representatives of the program, and ad-hoc consultants may be invited to collaborate in the evaluation.
Military candidates must participate in the entire selection process.
Undergraduate students who intend to enter the master's degree as a PMG Student must participate in the entire selection process.
The Lattes curriculum must be up to date, highlighting the candidate's most important achievements. The achievements in the curriculum can generate bonuses in the overall evaluation score of the candidate, composed of items (1) and (3). Here are some points considered important, although not mandatory: Accepted or published articles or book chapters, Academic guidance activities, Internship in research laboratories, Teaching experience, Extended supplementary education (e.g., master's degree), Short supplementary education, Academic exchange, Honorable mentions/highlights, Academic tutoring, Participation in scientific conferences, Professional achievements in the project area, Student representation. If you encounter any issues with the Lattes platform, please contact the Graduate Secretariat.
Special requests should be filed with the Graduate Secretariat of the ITA (via email to ippg.sec@ita.br or via WhatsApp to +55 12 99147-1625).
Here, the candidates can either propose research topics from their own interest or follow specific suggestions provided by professors. In both cases, the candidate is expected to write a research proposal and validate it previously with a professor.
