Abstract:

Sustainable development is one of the most discussed issues today. Not least, humankind has experienced tremendous economic and population growth, which has led to an exponential increase in the production of goods and services and, consequently, has caused the growing depletion of natural resources. Thus, as a way to keep the "spinning wheel" in the world capitalist system, human progress now has to worry about issues that it did not care about before. This is where sustainable development comes in. It is in this context that the theme addressed in the present work is located: Sustainable Architecture. The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze some of the sustainable architectural solutions proposed by Alison Kwok in her book The Green Studio Handbook. Such solutions are methods idealized with the purpose of using non-polluting and renewable means in everyday applications in homes - Green Roofs, Geothermal Tubes, among others. The analysis includes, in addition to the description of each solution, adaptations to the Brazilian context - since the Brazilian standards were used instead of the American norms used in the bibliography. In addition, as practical results of the work, tools were produced that provide calculation means for each solution. Finally, the last section shows the application of a particular solution to a real case in São José dos Campos: the Habitas Project.
